Match Report: Magosi Share the Spoils in Four-Goal Thriller
Mochudi Centre Chiefs were held to a 2–2 draw by Matebele FC in a lively FNB Premiership clash under the lights at Gaborone United Stadium on Friday evening.
The hosts struck first in the 29th minute, punishing Chiefs against the run of play to take a 1–0 lead. But the Magosi responded swiftly, showing character and determination. From a Gilbert Baruti corner, Shanganani Ngada rose highest to power home a towering header and bring the game level.
Moments later, the Magosi turned the game on its head. Once again it was Baruti’s delivery that unlocked the Matebele defence, this time finding Kitso Mpuisang, who made no mistake with a strong header to give Chiefs a 2–1 lead heading into the break.
The second half proved to be end-to-end, with both sides creating opportunities. Matebele clawed back an equaliser in the 63rd minute, setting up a tense finish. Chiefs pressed hard for a winner, and the match’s turning point came when the Magosi were controversially denied a penalty. A defensive mishap left the Matebele backline scrambling, and Chiefs striker, Hendrick Moyo, appeared to be brought down inside the box, but the referee waved play on to the frustration of players and supporters alike.
Despite their efforts, Chiefs were forced to settle for a share of the spoils. The draw extends Magosi’s unbeaten run, but the feeling will be one of missed opportunity after leading at half-time and being denied the chance to claim all three points.
